1. Understanding the Role of the Backlight Module

An open-cell panel only controls image formation. The backlight module provides the light source that makes the image visible.

A standard backlight module usually includes:

  • LED light bars or Mini LED arrays

  • Light guide plate (LGP)

  • Diffuser films and prism sheets

  • Reflective sheet

  • Metal housing or frame

Choosing the correct backlight design is essential for brightness, uniformity, and panel lifespan.

2. Match the Backlight Module with the Open-Cell Panel

Before integration, ensure full compatibility between the open-cell panel and the backlight module:

Key Matching Factors

  • Panel size and active area must match exactly

  • Resolution and pixel structure alignment

  • Brightness requirement (standard, high-brightness, outdoor use)

  • Power consumption and voltage compatibility

  • Mechanical structure (screw holes, frame size)

Incorrect matching may cause uneven brightness, light leakage, or permanent panel damage.

3. Prepare a Clean and Controlled Assembly Environment

Open-cell panels are extremely sensitive to dust, pressure, and static electricity.

Recommended Conditions

  • Cleanroom or dust-controlled environment

  • Anti-static gloves, mats, and tools

  • Proper panel holders or vacuum suction tools

  • Stable temperature and humidity

Even small dust particles can cause dark spots or mura, which cannot be repaired after assembly.

4. Install Optical Films in the Correct Order

Optical films play a critical role in brightness and uniformity.

Typical Film Order (Bottom to Top)

  1. Reflective sheet

  2. Light guide plate (LGP)

  3. Diffuser sheet

  4. Prism sheets (1–2 layers, depending on design)

  5. Protective film (if applicable)

Incorrect film order or orientation can reduce brightness or cause visible lines and uneven light distribution.

5. Mount the Open-Cell Panel onto the Backlight Module

When placing the open-cell panel onto the backlight module:

  • Use uniform pressure, never press on one corner

  • Avoid touching the active display area

  • Ensure the panel sits flat with no bending

  • Confirm correct alignment before final fixation

Excessive force or misalignment can cause glass cracks or internal pixel damage.

6. Connect Driver Boards and Signal Interfaces

After mechanical assembly:

  • Connect T-CON board, LED driver board, and signal cables

  • Verify correct polarity and secure connections

  • Avoid bending FPC cables sharply

Before final sealing, perform a temporary power-on test to ensure:

  • Backlight turns on normally

  • No flickering or abnormal brightness

  • Image displays correctly without lines or dark areas

7. Perform Full Functional and Aging Tests

After integration, testing is critical to ensure long-term stability.

Recommended Tests

  • White / black / RGB screen test

  • Brightness uniformity inspection

  • Flicker and flashing check

  • 2–8 hours aging test under continuous operation

This step helps identify early failures and reduces after-sales risks.

8. Final Fixation and Protective Packaging

Once testing is completed:

  • Secure the panel with metal frames or brackets

  • Apply protective films to the display surface

  • Use anti-static and shock-resistant packaging

For export shipments, moisture-proof materials and reinforced cartons or wooden crates are strongly recommended.

9. Common Integration Risks to Avoid
  • Using incompatible backlight modules

  • Dust contamination during assembly

  • Uneven pressure during panel placement

  • Skipping aging or functional testing

  • Poor packaging for transportation

Avoiding these mistakes can significantly improve yield rate and product reliability.
